We will endevour to document every step of the progress in this section, and remember - every item on the cup car is suitable for road going aplications!

NOTE- The Car Won the VW cup - Skip to the end to see!

The Build...

We raced in the VW Cup Last year with Tony Gillam and the Beetle RSi below...

...to a fair level of success, considering the age of the car and the aerodynamic disadvantages of the beetles shape. Straight line speed was a problem.

After a long rethink the team decided a fresh start was needed and a new MK5 Golf GTi 2.0 TFSi Turbo was the decided base for the project.

As soon as it was delivered the testing commenced.

Once a Baseline standard power output was established we fitted an EVO-MS Intake for analysis.

Shortly after a AWE 'Racing System' was delivered. A really trick system with no boxes or cats... a true straight through system. Even the internal welds have been ground back!

Software revisions were nessicary to allow the car to run without cats without throwing up fault codes and warning lights. we are the only tuner able to offer this unique product.

Here you can see the weld porting -

Then a larger exhaust manifold from Dbilas was fitted. This has far far superior flow to the standard item.

Dbilas Manifold to the left -

The car was then stripped ready for the full DAP Developments roll cage fitment.

Work in progress shots -

The car was then sent to AVC (Absolute Vehicle Care) for the respray in porsche safety green.

With the Car back in the workshop, Brakes were installed - Alcon 4 pots with 343mm fully floating Discs and alloy bells along with motorsport stud and nut hub conversions

And ultra lightweight Team Dynamics wheels were tested for size and KW Varient 3 Coilovers fitted.

Then the Buildup of the body of the car began...

But Before the front glass went in we took the oppurtunity to get some more detailed shots of the cage.

(The black strips you see are alcantara pads to protect the paint on the cage from wear.)

New Sparco Wheel

Some Shots of the wheels/brakes and stud conversion.

Next on the list was to throw away the aircon system.

And install VF Engineering Engine and Transmission Mounts -

Then a Final Dyno Run along with GIAC Software and it was loaded up for testing.

Dbilas Developed another variation on an intake system for the car so this was installed for testing.

The Car At Brands Hatch Testing...

And this is how it stands for now...

Check back as revisions and improvments are being made to the car on a daily basis and updates will be frequent!

First Race : Oulton Park 9th April

An Update from the 1st race of the season at Oulton Park....

Being a new car we had alot of work to do to make sure the car was up for scruteneering. The lads worked well into the night on Easter sunday ensureing the car was 110% ready....aswell as setup the new AST remote resevoir race suspension.

A late addition was the VW Racing front splitter, then the car was rolled to the weigh in on its silver 7.5" team dynamics wheels....

With the car weighed it was back in for some last minuite checks for qualifying.... the car was turned around very fast and we were out ready to be 1st on track to try and get a clean lap out front.

Unfortunatly just before qualifying another race was being held. There was a spin on the 1st corner and the car dumped oil on the track. Being first out we hit the oil patch and Tony span into the grass, narrowly avoiding the tyre wall and coming to an abrupt halt in a run off zone. Bye Bye splitter!

With the car back the team had a very limited timeframe to ready the car for the 1st race. The radiator was burst on impact with the grass and the splitter was absent. With everything clean and sorted and the smaller wheels on (black wheels = 8" wide, silver = 7.5") to cure rubbing issues it was back out for the 1st race. Starting from the back of the grid Tony fought through to finish 4th. This put him 3rd on the grid for the 2nd race.

Weighing in again, post 1st race.

Then in the second race avoiding 2 spinning beetles, only one lap in, Tony hit the tyre wall in the golf bending the wing into the passenger side tyre and ruining the 10 min old tyre!

The race was stopped to clear the spun beetles and Tony came in to the pits to try and rectify the wing. Sure enough with help of a spare BBS wheel from VW racing and a huge reel of tank tape from one of the GT teams who were racing earlier on in the day the car was ready intime for the the restart.

Starting from the back of the grid yet again tony fought back to 6th on the greasy track.

A very sucessfull weekend for a brand new car. The damage is being sorted as i type and we hope to do well again in the next race!

And a couple of pics from the 2nd race...

Double Wins at Silverstone! 12 August.

With only two rounds left at Rockingham the title race is hotting up. We have been developing the car all season and with it finally nearing its potential Tony is 28 points clear at the top of the championship with everything to play for...
